Summer #5!! I can’t believe it. Come May 26th, there is no place else I would rather be, than with my Hollymead swim team family at the Hollymead pool. It’s truly hard to believe that I have been coaching within the JSL for 20 years. I coach swimming to be a lifelong sport that promotes fitness, team bonding and overall best sportsmanship practices. We work hard in and out of the pool, while still making sure everyone has fun. Learning proper stroke mechanics and maintaining high levels of safety are core values that I will not overlook and, of course, sportsmanship is a must - winning the JSL sportsmanship for Division 1 teams was such a highlight for our team last year. I just finished my fifth year as head swim coach and aquatic director at Woodberry Forest School. GO HAMMERHEADS!!
What a privilege it is to be back coaching at Hollymead for year #5! Hollymead is the highlight of my entire year where our team feels like family. This is my 10th JSL season and the second summer all three of my boys will be swimming together: Ryan (14), Drew (11), and Brett (6).
My husband, Jeff, and I have lived in Charlottesville since 2014. I grew up in rural Maryland, swimming since the age of 7. I've been coaching and teaching swim lessons since 1996 and am grateful for all of the special relationships I've had with my swimmers and their families over the years. I'm currently finishing up my 5th year as head swim coach of BASS Charlottesville.
I swam for York College of Pennsylvania (class of 2003), specializing in breast, fly, and IM and was named Captain my Junior and Senior years. I'm a former critical care RN, enjoy the challenge of a fast-paced learning environment, and believe that building a positive culture is one of the most important aspects of leading a team. I love mentoring new coaches and sharing my passion for the sport I've been lucky enough to love for my entire life. When I'm not on the pool deck, you can find me at the baseball diamond at McIntire and Lane Park, cheering on my three boys.
Lindsey grew up swimming year round in Council Bluffs,Iowa, and swam for Iowa State University, where she was named captain. She specialized in mid distance freestyle, butterfly, and IM.
Lindsey loves working with swimmers of all age groups. This is her 5th season as a JSL coach, and she has coached USA swimming for many years. She loves how competitive swimming provides kids with a skill they can use their entire lives for sport, exercise, safety, as well as friendships that will last a lifetime. Lindsey lives in Charlottesville with her husband, Trent, and her two boys, Nick and Trey, who are Hollymead swimmers.
Hi! I’m Coach Ryleigh and I am so excited to be a returning coach this summer! I have swam with Hollymead since I was 5 years old, so this will be my 12th year swimming on the team, and 2nd year as an official coach. I also served as a team captain for my Junior and Senior years of high school swim team. I recently graduated from William Monroe High School and PVCC this Spring, and will be attending James Madison University in the Fall. One of my favorite things about Hollymead is the sense of family the atmosphere brings. I can’t wait for a fun Summer ahead. Go Hammerheads!!
Hello! My name is Madison Schultheis, and I will be attending PVCC this fall! I will be transferring to UVA the following year and majoring in Psychology. I have been swimming since I was 5 years old and my favorite stroke is breaststroke. This is my 3rd year swimming at Hollymead and my first year being an official coach! I was a CIT last year and I am very excited to continue coaching! I coached for the BASS swim team over the school year, which has taught me a lot about coaching that I am excited to apply this summer! I love to read and write when I’m not swimming, as well as spending time with my family and friends. I’m very excited for this summer and all the great memories it will bring!
Hello! My name is Aaron Greenberg and I will be a junior at Albemarle Highschool this coming fall. I began swimming year round at ACAC when I was 9 years old and swimming at Hollymead since I was 13 years old. I am a year round swimmer at BASS and my absolute favorite stroke to swim is Butterfly. My favorite thing about swimming and coaching at Hollymead is how connected we are as a team and how much excitement we bring to the sport of swimming. I am very excited to coach and swim at Hollymead this summer and I know we will have an amazing time!
Cara moved back to the Charlottesville area in 2021 with her husband, Phil, and her 4 kids, Calais, Olin, Laney, and Lennon, and is an experienced swimmer and coach. She has been competitively swimming since age 6, so she knows all about what it’s like to be a team swimmer. She swam on both summer and year round teams and then continued her swimming career throughout high school, college, and beyond. She was a member of the US National Junior Team and competed in Malmo, Sweden. She won the 800m and 1500m at the World University Games in Palma, Mallorca on the USA Swimming World University team. She won two individual NCAA Division 1 Championships at the University of Virginia in 2001 & 2001 for the mile. Her title in 2000 was the first individual title for a woman in UVA history. She also won NCAA Swimmer of the Year on two occasions. She set numerous UVA and NCAA records in the 500, 800, 1500, and 1650m and those UVA pool records remained school records for over 20 years. They were only recently broken by Leah Smith and Katie Grimes, both US Olympic medalists! She also was a member of the USA National A&B Swim teams in both high school and college and participated in US Olympic training camps and trials. She graduated from UVA with a BS in Environmental Science and a Master’s in Special Education.
Her extensive competitive career has given her a serious edge in coaching, so she knows how to coach to win, but also understands that becoming a better swimmer is about improving technically while having fun. She has coached both summer and year round teams including the Savannah Swim Team (Savannah, GA), the Nike Swim Team (Portland Oregon), Westover Waves (Harrisonburg), VAST Gators (Harrisonburg) and currently with BASS here in Charlottesville. Cara loves to coach young swimmers where she feels she can make the most impact in helping developmental swimmers reach their full potential and take their swimming to the next level. When she’s not at the pool, she’s trying to keep her husband, Phil, from buying more yoyos, running around with her kids, and spreading joy with her business, Card My Yard Charlottesville.
