Winter swim options
Good morning, Hammerheads!
Are you and your swimmers missing the swim team yet?? I know we are!
I wanted to pass along some information about options for winter swim this year, in case you and your swimmers are interested in continuing their development in the water.
Charlottesville Gators
Charlottesville Gators head coach JJ Bean is a legend in the swimming community around here. He remains committed to providing families and the Charlottesville area with a stable, supportive home for competitive swimming, swim lessons, and aquatics activities. Virginia Gators of Charlottesville has been a non-profit, Parent Board-run, independent USA Swimming team since 2000, and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Along with their sister sites Roanoke, Harrisonburg, and Crozet/Waynesboro, they are continuing to discuss how to work together as a state-level organization of independent teams.
Registration is well underway! You can find all the important info on schedule, fees and how to register at these links: Cville Registration, Cville Schedule, Cville Fees. Out of continued caution, we plan to hold Bubble Up slightly later once again, in October, in order to maximize our outdoor time. If you have any questions about what group your swimmer should register for, please contact JJ or Cathy at [email protected].
Gators also offers a summer prep swimming program for about 6 weeks in the spring for swimmers who maybe can't commit to multiple months in winter but want a little boost of endurance and skills prior to summer swim season.
My children have been Gators for several years. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about our experience or the team.
Cavalier Aquatics
Cavalier Aquatics practices at Brooks YMCA. They have a fantastic program that offers a wide range of practices to challenge swimmers. You can read more about their program, practice times, and fees.
They have try outs to determine in which group your swimmer will be placed. You can email [email protected] to discuss options for assessments.
It is important to note that all swimmers must be a member of the YMCA to be on the Cavalier Aquatic swim team. You can review membership options and pricing here.
We have several Hollymead swimmers who swim with Cavalier Aquatics. They all rave about their experience. I would be happy to connect you to another parent if you would like to discuss Cav Aquatics further.
We are really fortunate to have fantastic options for our swimmers who would like to continue their swimming through the fall/winter/spring months. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can be of any assistance.
Warmly,
Skye Durrer
