    Parking

From the City team: The parking situation is somewhat difficult.

The Washington pool parking lot fills up early before a swim meet. Families can park at the bottom of the hill at the intersection of Preston and Madison Ave., or families can park in the parking lot behind Burley Middle School at Henry Avenue and Rose Hill Drive. Street parking is limited and please be mindful of parking signs and driveways. The police will be enforcing parking laws as necessary and will offer assistance.

Parking is STRICTLY PROHIBITED on Henry Ave and Charlton Ave., and local neighbors will tow cars that are blocking their driveways.

    Seating & Bags

Beginning at 4:30 PM, families and swimmers may enter the left gate (closest to the main parking lot). The space around the shallow end of the pool (to your right as you enter the main entrance) is reserved for Hollymead. There are two permanent shade features and a third shade tent set up in that area. Families are welcome to bring additional shade tents and chairs, but tents must be set up outside the fence as the deck has been too crowded with tents during past meets.

Glass is not permitted in the pool area or on deck; bags will be checked by staff entering at the gate before entering the pool deck. Note there is no wading or walking in the zero depth section of the pool during the meet as there will not be lifeguards for that section. Please be mindful when setting up chairs and blankets to keep a clear walkway open at all times.

    Food

The Washington Park concession stand only serves snacks and drinks. Families can bring food or order it to be delivered to Washington Park Pool. There are additional food options that are walkable along Preston Avenue (The Dairy Market is a food court with many food options - directly across Preston Ave: https://dairymarketcville.com/). One block east on Preston Ave., you will find Sticks Kebob Shop and Cafe 88 Taiwanese Cafe.

    Meet Entries

Meet entries are currently posted in your swimtopia account. Additional details will be sent tomorrow. Note that RELAYS ARE AT THE END of the meet so DO NOT LEAVE EARLY! Hearing announcements at City pool is notoriously difficult; please have your swimmer pay close attention to heats being called.

    Heat Sheets

The meet heat sheet PDF will be attached to an email on Wednesday. Heat sheets will also be sold by the City team parents group for those who would like a paper version for $2 each, cash or venmo.

    Inclement Weather

If a storm moves through during the meet, all swimmers and families will have to clear the deck and return to their cars. There is no indoor space. Updates about a return-to-deck time will be sent through swimtopia via the app and email, so watch your phone.

    Clerk

We need your help keeping Clerk organized and calm. Please send your swimmers only as their events are called to Clerk, then leave them with the coaches. Extra people - swimmers or adults - create unnecessary confusion, crowding, and noise. Thank you for helping us get swimmers to get to the blocks so we can start races on time.

    Meet Volunteers

You’ve seen how complex meets are - all this is due to volunteers. Please sign up to help at both every home and away meet in which your child swims. Visit HollymeadHammerheads.Swimtopia.com>Events and select Job Signup to see what is available. If you’re planning ahead, go ahead and select your jobs now for the rest of the season! Again, help please fill our volunteer sheet by noon Friday.

    Goggles

Our meets begin in bright sunlight and end in deep darkness. Please bring TWO sets of goggles for your swimmers: tinted goggles for the sunlight races (like sunglasses) and clear goggles for the night races (so they can easily see the flags and walls). If you’re looking to purchase goggles, visit the Hollymead snack shop during morning practice.
