    ACAC Meet Information

    Hello Hammerheads!

I'm back! We were cheering for the Hammerheads from Alaska. So excited to be back on the pool deck with our favorite summer swim team.

Happy Father's Day to all our swim dads who show up and cheer on our swimmers.

    Meet Location

We will be swimming at ACAC this Wednesday. The address is 200 Four Seasons Dr, Charlottesville, VA 22901.

    Warm-Ups

Arrive by 445pm ready to swim. Our warm ups start at 515pm.

    Volunteering

Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who help make swim meets possible!

If you have questions about your volunteer assignment or the meet itself, please reach out to your mentor family (if you have one) or contact me.

When you arrive, please find me to receive your name tag and any instructions.

It is essential that you serve in the volunteer position for which you signed up. Our meets depend on everyone fulfilling their commitments, and we truly appreciate your support.

    What to Bring

    • Flip-flops or Crocs (the pool deck will be hot!)
    • Plenty of water
    • Sunscreen
    • Team cap
    • Goggles (including a backup pair if possible)
    • Clear/non-tinted goggles if your swimmer has them
    • Towel
    • Snacks, dinner, or money for concessions

    Clerk of Course:

The Clerk of Course will be set up on the elevated deck behind the starting blocks.

    Parking:

There is limited parking at the ACAC pool. We encourage families to carpool to the Swim Meet. Parking on the street is allowed, but vehicles must be COMPLETELY ON THE GRASS. Emergency exits for the pool are identified and cannot be blocked.

We will have overflow parking at the law offices of Tucker Griffin Barnes located at 307 Rio Rd W.

The ACAC shuttle will run from 4-5 to shuttle families to the pool.

Parking spots will be reserved for the Head Coach, Computer Operator, and Meet Director near the front entrance to the pool

    Thunder/Lightning

In the event of thunder the pool deck must be cleared. In the event of lightning, the entire outdoor pool complex must be cleared. The main pool entrance as well as a second exit will be opened to allow for people to clear the pool area quickly. In the event of lighting or thunder you may retreat to your car.

    Seating in the pool area:

Visiting teams typically go to the far side of the pool, but you may sit anywhere you like. Please bring your own chairs as there are a limited number of chairs and umbrellas available. We can accommodate 8-10 standard sized tents on the pool deck. Please make sure they are set up in a single row against the chain link fence. We want to make sure there is enough walking room for swimmers, parents, and officials!

    Timeline:

    4:45-5:15 ACAC warm up

    5:15-5:45 Hollymead warm up

    5:30 Officials meeting by starter

5:45 Timers meeting under canopy by the pool (please have first and second half volunteers attend!)

    6:00 Meet start

There will be a short break after Event 43 (15-18 Breaststroke) so we can switch out volunteers. Please ask your volunteers to stay in place until a second half volunteer relieves them. Timers will transition at the Pavilion end and should hold their watches in the air to show they need to be replaced. Second half volunteers should stay at the Pavilion end and wait for the Head Timers instructions before moving. Since we are a 50 meter pool, during 8 & under events lanes 1-4 will go to the right side of the pool at the 25 meter mark and lanes 5-8 will go to the left side of the pool at the 25 meter mark.

    Other:

    • Alcohol and glass containers are not allowed. Coolers will be checked at the entrance.
    • We have a concrete deck that can get hot and has uneven spots, so swimmers should wear shoes around the deck to protect their feet!
    • The Gaga pit, slide and baby pools will be roped off and closed during the meet.
    • The pool side CafĂ© will be open serving Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, and general snack bar food. You can pay using card or cash.

    Meet Etiquette Reminders

Please review these important reminders with your swimmers before the meet:

    • Show excellent sportsmanship.
    • Stay in the water until all swimmers in your heat have finished.
    • Congratulate fellow swimmers with a handshake or high-five after races.
    • Cheer for your teammates!
    • Swimmers and spectators should stand respectfully during the National Anthem.
    • Swimmers must check in with a coach before leaving the meet. We often maintain a standby list for exhibition swims, and we need to know who is still available.
    • Before leaving, please clean up your area and dispose of all trash.

    Declaring for Meets

Our deadline for meet declarations is 12:00 PM on the Friday before each meet.

Please declare your swimmers accurately so our coaches can properly prepare lineups and create the meet. You are welcome to declare for all remaining meets now if that is easier for your family.

While we understand emergencies happen, please make every effort to attend meets for which you have declared your swimmer available. If an emergency arises, please notify both Coach Helen ([email protected]) and Skye Durrer ([email protected]) as soon as possible.

    HMH Gear

Hammerhead shirts, caps, and magnets are still available for purchase.

Please contact Jayna at [email protected] if you would like to purchase team gear.

    Fun Day

Please sign up to bring items for Thursday Fun Day through SwimTopia under Events & Swim Meets.

    Stroke Clinic

Stroke Clinics are held on Saturday mornings.

Registration closes at 12:00 PM on Friday so we can appropriately staff each session. The cost is $5 cash per swimmer, per clinic.

Sign up through SwimTopia under Events & Swim Meets.
